August is #womenintranslation month, and at Parthian we always strive to celebrate those literary gems – poetry, fiction, memoir – that would otherwise not reach an English-language readership. We have a wealth of talented female authors and translators on our list and we're constantly seeking to add to it. This week saw the release of the wonderful short-story collection Burning Bones by Miren Agur Meabe, translated from Basque by Amaia Gabantxo. Internationally acclaimed German translator Heike Reissig has won the ‘Auf geht's!’ (‘Let's go!’) scholarship which will enable her to translate Hello Friend We Missed You  by Richard Owain Roberts, the winner of The Guardian's Not the Booker Prize 2020. Hello Friend We Missed You is a poignant and comic novel about loneliness, Netflix, existing, rural life, money, Jack Black, and learning to live in the least excruciating way possible. Parthian Books has signed a rights deal for the translation of Easy Meat into Danish with the publisher Forlaget mellemgaard of Odense, Denmark.
