The wait is over for this brand-new collection of emotive and tender short stories from the winners of the 2024 Rhys Davies Short Story Award. Selected by Rebecca F. John and edited by Elaine Canning, A Dictionary of Light includes twelve incredibly touching stories by twelve fantastic writers and a beautiful front cover photo taken by Joshua Jones. Elaine and Rebecca interviewed the winners at Waterstones Swansea for the release of this year’s anthology, discussing inspirations for their writing and what their winning stories mean to them. Submissions window to open in December 2024
Parthian will be open to submissions for ten days from Sunday December 1st until midday on Tuesday December 10th, reading for our 2026/27 list.What we are looking for: novels, short story collections, creative non-fiction, and poetry.What we are not looking for: YA / children's fiction. Please familiarise yourself with our list and consider whether your writing is a good fit. Our director, Richard Davies, says: "We're looking for gems in this submission window. Parthian have always caught my eye. With their striking covers and their mesmerising stories, they found their way into my life. I had the chance to witness the behind-the-scenes work of the publishing industry. The Open University who helped me to set this placement up have also been essential to being accepted in this way. I am used to working remotely due to the nature of my study, working to deadlines, and communicating openly. This opportunity came as a massive sign to me that my writing was valid.
