Parthian at the Edinburgh International Book Festival
By Parthian intern Julia Bradley This past weekend, I was lucky enough to be invited along on a Parthian trip up to Scotland, alongside Maria and Shona. The purpose of the trip was to attend the Edinburgh International Book Festival (12-28th August) and to support author Ece Temelkuran in promoting her book Women Who Blow on Knots. Eleni Cay to Launch Poetry Collection in Dublin
Eleni Cay will be launching her newly-translated poetry collection A Butterfly's Tremblings in the Digital Age at Books Upstairs, Dublin's best Independent bookshop. Eleni will be giving readings alongside John Minahane, who translated her poetry from the original Slovak. The launch will take place on July 4th, 6pm with free entry. From Wales to Canada – Our Carnival of Voices
If there’s one thing we’re proud of here at Parthian, it would have to be the range of voices we send out into the world upon our pages. We remain dedicated to literature from Wales, but as we have grown, so too have our interests extended beyond the Welsh hills. Alongside our Welsh authors, we today publish voices from across the world: from Germany to France, Turkey to Canada. These global connections have inspired so many unmissable stories, stories of love and loss, life and laughter; stories we are incredibly proud to put the Parthian name to.
Two of these global voices who have found homes at Parthian are Tristan Hughes and Tyler Keevil. These hugely talented authors are both originally from Canada, and have both since settled in Wales. With their engaging prose and gripping plots, it’s no wonder Tristan and Tyler have found success.
The Valley, The City, The Village: Bringing Wales and India together through literature
Welsh writers Natalie Ann Holborow, Siôn Tomos Owen and Sophie McKeand will be joined by Indian writers Aniesha Brahma, Srijato Bandyopadhyay and Arunava Sinha. The writers have been brought together by Welsh publisher Parthian Books, Kolkata-based Bee Books, Literature Wales and Wales Arts Review, for their new project The Valley, The City, The Village.
The project is supported by India Wales, a new funding scheme by the British Council and Wales Arts International. The scheme supports artistic collaboration and exchange between creative professionals and arts organisations in Wales and India to build sustainable, creative relationships and networks between the two countries.
The Valley, The City, The Village brings together the six writers in a series of residencies and live performances, which will result in a trilingual publication of new writing in Bengali, English and Welsh to be published by Parthian in 2018. The project incorporates prose, poetry, art and reportage from Bengal and Wales. A special 48-page full colour magazine celebrating The Valley, The City, The Village will also be launched on 26 May, featuring contributions from all writers.
