That is how Prys Morgan describes The Tradition: a new history of Welsh art. The author, Peter Lord, has dedicated many decades to write books in order to prove that the Welsh have a tradition of appreciating fine arts and to disprove those who deny the concept of Welsh Art. Prior to his latest publication, Peter Lord has published three volumes of a collection called The Visual Culture of Wales.
In The Journal of Glamorgan History (vol. 60, 2016), Prys Morgan discusses the book’s structure, the differences between the centuries of Welsh art (that in this book run from the fifteenth century up to the postbellum of the twentieth century) and various well-known Welsh artists whose work has been decisive for Welsh Art culture. Morgan confirms how Peter Lord proves his point that Wales has a tradition of love of the visual arts and completes his review by emphasizing not only the reader’s enjoyment of the magnificent pictures but also the intellectual stimulation in Peter Lord’s text.
