Last year, we published The Golden Orphans by Gary Raymond. Earlier this year, following it's success, we sold the Arabic rights to Ciaro-based Al Arabi Publishers. And now, we're thrilled to announce that The Golden Orphans will also be translated into Turkish, by Yeni Insan Publishing House.
Yeni Insan are a major publishing house in Turkey with a history of 11 years, active in both adult and children's categories. Sharing many of Parthian's own values when it comes to taking literature across borders, here's what they said about the part they're playing:
Gary Raymond, author of The Golden Orphans, was as excited as we are to be sending this novel overseas once more:
"It's not just a great honour to have Yeni Insan purchase my novel, but it feels like the story being told in it and the Turkish relationship with Cyprus is being made concrete. There is a subtext in the book about both nationhood and mythology, and Turkey as a cultural force lingers in the margins. It feels a little like The Golden Orphans is heading toward a country it belongs. I have certainly been influenced in my reading and writing by Pamuk, Shafak and Oguz Atay. When a book is done and it leaves your desk, as an author, it is exciting to see where it journeys, and this feels right, serendipitous."
With two translations already in the works for this brilliant novel, we can't wait to see where we can take it next. And in the meantime, you can buy the original English version from our online store!
