The annual PENfro Book Festival has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2011, returning this year for the seventh time from 7th -10th September. Set in the heart of West Wales against the idyllic backdrop of Rhosygilwen, the festival celebrates the quality and diversity of contemporary writing in Wales, with the aim of bringing such works to a new audience, whilst also recognising the often-unappreciated contribution of local publishers and booksellers.
The weekend will play host to an array of events, this year centred around the theme of The Year of the Legend. The festival offers visitors the chance to engage in a broad range of workshops, talks, and discussions in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, plus the
opportunity to meet a variety of talented writers and spoken word artists. A new addition to the festival’s annual competitions this year will be a short drama competition in English and a poetry competition in Welsh. All in all, it promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
On Sunday 10 at 10 am, the award-winning author Alex Barr will be on stage as part of the ‘My Story, Your Story’ event, discussing his latest collection of short stories, My Life with Eva (Parthian, 2017). At 11 am, David Lloyd Owen will be giving a talk on his fascinating work on Welsh history, A Wilder Wales – Travellers’ Tales 1610-1831 (Parthian, 2017).
