Parthian at Hay

The sun is beginning to shine consistently and the urge to spend your days sitting in the grass reading a good book is growing. It can mean nothing else  ‒ the countdown to Hay Festival 2022 has begun. And those deckchairs are calling us!

The iconic literary festival situated in the 'book town', Hay-on-Wye, returns with a full in-person programme, since before the pandemic. We are super excited to be back and Parthian have a couple of events that you can go see and enjoy!

#HayFestival2022

Monday 30th May at 7pm ‒ Max Boyce talks to Carolyn Hitt

After a sell-out book tour last December, Max Boyce is joining the Hay line-up to celebrate the publication Hymns & Arias which showcased the best of his selected poems, songs and stories.

Max Boyce captures the spirit and the story of the people of Wales with a warmth and charm that has made his words and music resonate with a worldwide audience.

There is only one Max. Join him as he discusses his remarkable career with award-winning journalist Carolyn Hitt.

Wednesday 1 June at 1pm -  Dylan Huw, Crystal Jeans and David Llewellyn talk to Kirsti Bohata

Queer Square Mile is a groundbreaking volume celebrating the wealth of queer writing from Wales.  Spanning genres from ghost stories and science fiction to industrial literature and surrealist modernism, these are stories of love, loss and transformation.

Join Dylan Huw, Crystal Jeans and David Llewellyn who will be talking to one of the editors of Queer Square Mile, Professor Kirsti Bohata. Discussing the importance of the short-story form in the development and portrayal of queer culture and celebrating the publication of this notable anthology.

Wednesday 1 June at 4pm  ‒ Jon Gower, Mabli Jones, Savanna Jones and Huw Williams

The Welsh Way: Essays on Neoliberalism and Devolution had an immediate impact on the understanding of Welsh politics and the discourse of radical politics in this country. Challenging the rhetoric of Welsh Labour and its record in power – and the broader perception of the British left – its wide range of author-activists, practitioners and academics dissect the narratives, policies and assumptions that structure perceptions of our politics, and tackle the myth that Welsh politics is somehow more progressive than that of its neighbours.

To discuss are the author of The Story of Wales, Jon Gower; contributors Mabli Jones (Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg) and Savanna Jones (Access, WP and Inclusion Manager with Higher Education Funding Council for Wales); and Huw Williams, one of the editors.

For the full information and to check out the whole festival programme head over to the Hay Festival website.  All books will be available at the festival bookshop.
