Do not lose yourself in dreams of shaping cities in your image.
-- Sophie McKeand
The keen, passionate, yet dreamy voice of Sophie McKeand drifts out of the speakers as she recites her poems 'Morning Prayer' and 'Dharma.'
North Welsh poet and performer Sophie McKeand went to the Bengali Region in India in 2017 as part of the cultural exchange program “The Valley, The City, The Village.” Among other ‘exchanges,’ this project, funded by IndiaWales, involved three Welsh authors and three Indian authors visiting each other’s countries and having their writings stimulated by new landscapes and cultural input. McKeand's collection Rebel Sun was a result of this exchange.
McKeand was deeply affected by the landscapes of India, and this is reflected in her poetry, which with a yearning tries to capture the connection between self and landscape.
You are the universe in flesh and water. There is nothing you don’t already know. Learn to hear your truth.
